James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

There is a great spiritual battle between God and Satan, and humanity is the battlefield of this war. Satan wants humans to obey him, and God, as Creator, wants mankind to obey God.

The secret of not letting Satan dominate our lives is to give everything to God, so that God may take possession of our lives by the power of the Holy Spirit.

You can have victory by focusing your life on Jesus Christ. If Jesus is your guide and power, you will defeat Satan. The moment you turn your eyes away from Jesus, Satan will win the moment.

How Demons Work

1Pet 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

The word “sober” is a word difficult to define quickly. The word is, G3525 (Strong Dictionary)  νήφω néfo; 1. to be sober (to abstain from wine) 2. (figuratively) to be sensible, discreet (i.e. sober-minded). To be vigilant. But we understand that drinking makes one loosen your attention and care about the things in life that are at hand. It is not so much about not drinking alcohol, but about not going into a loose mindset, easy to accept and doing anything without examining it carefully to see if there is danger (spiritual) or not in it.

2Cor 2:11 Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

2Cor 11:14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

Rev 12:9 the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world…

John 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

Satan uses deception to accomplish what he does. He makes very angry statements that are simply not true. We have to test what we hear to see if they are true or not. We use the Bible, because the Bible is true, and we compare the Word of God against what we hear to know if it is true or not.

Acts 13:10 And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?

Satan uses the people who lend themselves to him, and we have to be very careful with our friends and acquaintances because Satan often uses them to destroy us spiritually.

1Cor 15:33 Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.

“Communications” are your friends, conversations, and social links. In other words, choose very carefully the people you are going to be with because Satan uses them to cause you to fall.

2Cor 11:13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. 14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. 15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

Good people cause good to happen to their friends, and bad people get them into trouble. So get away and stay away from bad people.

2Thess 2:9 Even him, (man of iniquity) whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, 10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: 12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

We have to understand that Satan works to exclude the good from God by simply loving the filthy world. If one does not actively seek the things of God (the good), the bad will fill his life and you will never have victory.

We have Power over them

Luke 9:1 (Jesus) gave them (his twelve disciples) power and authority over all devils (demons)…

Matt 10:1… he gave them power against unclean spirits (demons), to cast them out..

Luke 10:17 And the seventy returned… saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.

Demons are not an unbearable force with nothing to do against them that will always defeat us, but rather God gives us the power to overcome even the demons.

But we should not take this fight lightheartedly either.

Jude 1:9 Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.

That is, they are very powerful and very dangerous powers against us. If the archangel still did not want to “rail on” the devil, we too must respect them for the great power they represent, although through Jesus Christ, they will not win the day.

How to Fight against Them

2Cor 10:4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) 5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

We must understand that this struggle is in our minds, in what things we think. Controlling our mind is exactly how we fight against the Devil.

Phil 3:8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,

The secret of not letting temptation dominate us is to esteem Jesus Christ so much more that nothing else in this world compares to Him. Mt 4:10

Resisting the First stimulation to temptation

1John 3:8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

The point here is to strongly resist the temptation to sin, and at first entrance of temptation, do something to get out of there. Hebrews 2:14-18

1Cor 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

There is always a way out that God gives us how we can go out without sinning. You have to find it, you have to find it and think and do something else that is not a sin.

Help to Resisting

Eph 4:27 Neither give place to the devil.

We have to clean every corner and closet of our lives so that Satan will not find a place to stay or even a place to stay.

Saturate yourself in the Word of God.

Eph 5:25-27 That he (God)  might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

The instrument to cleanse us from sin is the Bible, the Holy Scriptures. Just by reading them and meditating constantly on them they will cleanse us from sin and give us power over sin.

As we scrub time after time a piece of clothing with a stain, we have to meditate time and again on the Scriptures to get rid of our sin.

Ps 119:9 Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.

Seeking and being Filled with the Spirit

Eph 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

Gal 5:24 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

The Devil is an evil spirit, and it is not possible to remove his influence in your life without substituting something else in its place. If you remove a demon to exchange with a worse demon, that is no good. (Luke 11:24-26) “the last state of that man is worse than the first”. Only by focusing on being filled with the Holy Spirit to fill your soul and then you can throw the Devil out and you be in a better situation.

Eph 4:30 And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

When you give in to sin, then the Holy Spirit that dwells within you is grieved for your sin.

Watch, Watch, Watch

1Pet 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

Titus 2:12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

If we have to push and replenish the bad with the good, then we must constantly examine our lives to remove and replace the bad.

Drawing Near to God

Jas 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

God is not going to help you against the Devil if you don’t invoke Him in it. You have to seek his help, asking for it, and first choose to draw near to God instead of being with the Devil. There is no other option to take, it is God or Satan.

Be Wise.

Prov 13:20 He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

The spiritual community of a good church will share wisdom in how to fight against the Devil and his temptations.

Good Music

Col 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

There is a music that is of the world that serves the purposes of the Devil. As a Christian, we must get away from this type of music that always speaks of sinful things. Instead, God has put beautiful music in the church that gives encouragement to your heart and soul. These are hymns and spiritual songs. Feed your flesh or your spirit with what you hear.

1John 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
