Deuteronomy 18:9 When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations. 10 There shall not be found among you anyone that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, 11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. 12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.
Witchcraft is an abominable practice before God that has to do with “spirits” and spiritual forces as instruments for achieving what one wants. Using witchcraft and other similar practices, one ignores God as their resource for help in this life.

What is Witchcraft?
Many people do not understand what witchcraft is really. But first we must understand a biblical foundation before we really can understand witchcraft. There is a true God, and He created us, and He is sovereign over us. We must worship that God, because He is our Creator, and we must seek his moral guidance in life, and for whatever matter that we need or want, we must go to Him first to see if it is what we should seek and ask God for (if it is His will for us).
Having established this, witchcraft is to seek spirits or occult principles to get what we want (our own will).
1 Samuel 15:22 And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. 23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.
Saul did not obey what God indicated to him to do, but he did want he wanted to do, in his own way.
Psalms 100:3 Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
How does one practice witchcraft?
In modern and classic witchcraft, they will tell you that there are two important things that they use often, occult principles and spiritual assistants.
Occult Principles. (“Spells”). This is basically a presumption that God does not exist, or if He does exist, God himself is restricted by some “principles” that He must obey. These are generally “occult” (hidden), but they believe that certain human beings (witches) can find a way to invoke them as a spiritual instrument to get what they want no matter what God’s will is.
Refutation. Firstly, yes there are spiritual principles, but they are not independent from God but are a part of God’s moral character, a part of His personality. God is not restricted by them, but these spiritual and moral principles have life and force over the universe because they are products of God’s moral character and power. The Bible explains these things for us, but we cannot understand them, much less can we use them, without seeing the foundation of the perfect will of God. They do not function as a weapon or instrument that a person can use against the purposes and will of God.
The Druids and other people that believe in Mother Earth are people that have embraced this concept today, so also in the ecological movement and in protecting the earth and saving earth “from human beings” which they see as invaders of our same planet earth, or that they are parasites in her.
God created the planet for us. We are not strangers or parasites on the earth, but rather the earth was made for us. Acts 17:26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth… 28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being… The important point here is that we are here by the will of God, and it is morally correct that we “occupy” the planet. Our mere existence here (at least for these ecological and Mother-earth people) now is seen as some kind of moral sin. We shouldn’t eat meat, nor consume anything that God has provided for us, and even breathing to live is a moral sin because it produces carbon dioxide that “harms the planet”.
Spiritual Guides. This foundational part of witchcraft is that there exist “spirits” that may be evil, or good, or neutral. By invoking them in some way, you can make them serve you for your purposes. This is spiritualism. The error here is that the human beings think that they can control these spirits for their own personal use, and in so doing, they will not cause themselves harm by being involved with them. But the Bible clearly and strongly prohibits having anything to do with them. Also, the Bible prohibits having anything to do with mediums which work as go-betweens between humans and the spirits.
Leviticus 19:31 Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God.
Firstly, “familiar spirits” H178 comes from the word for bubbling, or skin, or thing that has a sound made, ventriloquist, fortune-teller, enchanting, evoking spirits, or ghosts (Strong’s Dictionary). A “wizard” H3049 is a knower, or somebody who brings up a ghost (Strong’s Dictionary). Technically speaking, a spirit, a demon or an angel can be a creature that was once in heaven and began their existence there. But a ghost is supposedly a human being that has died. (Necromancy is the word that witchcraft uses to contact the dead.)
A good example here is Saul in 1 Samuel 28:8 with the witch of Endor (a woman who is a medium). See 1 Samuel 10:13-14. Another famous case is in Acts 16:16-19, where the girl earned money for her owners by being a medium. This wickedness is simply to contact spirits or supposedly the spirits of dead humans to seek their help. Many times, there is an intermediary called a divine or a medium. Supposedly they can tell the future, consult with the dead, or consult with spirits which are not human (spirits which they leave without defining who they are or where they come from) so that they can help a person with something in their life.
Leviticus 20:6 And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits, and after wizards, to go a whoring after them, I will even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off from among his people.
Also, note in Leviticus 19:31 that by using them in a consultation, that act will contaminate (“defile”) the person seeking the spirit in the sight of God. Moreover, it is an abomination before God, and it will cause God to oppose you with all of God’s force.
Deuteronomy 18:12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.
2 Kings 21:6 And he (Manasseh) made his son pass through the fire, and observed times, and used enchantments, and dealt with familiar spirits and wizards: he wrought much wickedness in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.
The Importance of Rejecting Witchcraft
Exodus 22:18 Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.
Leviticus 20:6 And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits, and after wizards, to go a whoring after them, I will even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off from among his people.
Before God, witches should be put to death by the civil authorities. In other words, for God, the people who get involved with spirits, demons, and the occult should die because of the gravity of the wickedness that they are doing. So, a believer in Jesus Christ should not have anything to do with witchcraft.
Galatians 5:19-21 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these… witchcraft… and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
How is it that witchcraft is a manifestation of the flesh? Because the person does not seek God, and they seek other wicked spirits in place of God, so therefore, it is a work of the flesh.
How do we reject it?
Acts 19:18 And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds. 19 Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver. 20 So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.
People in the New Testament practiced magic and the black arts before they were saved, and when they accepted Jesus as Savior, they abandoned all this completely, and only by doing this could the work of God grow.
Leviticus 19:26 Ye shall not eat anything with the blood: neither shall ye use enchantment, nor observe times.
Zechariah 10:2 For the idols have spoken vanity, and the diviners have seen a lie, and have told false dreams; they comfort in vain: therefore, they went their way as a flock, they were troubled, because there was no shepherd.
Malachi 3:5 And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers…
“Vain” means to be empty of eternal value, not have the truth, to not have spiritual value. If God tells us that witchcraft and magic is of no value, it is a deception and not true, why get involved with it then?
Conclusion
We can conclude with those who consult with spirits and use spells are simply abandoning God to solve their problems and seek their needs and wants. All that they are working in their flesh without God. This is just rebellion. 2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. The principal matter here is that you seek God to solve your needs and problems, seek God to provide for you.
Isaiah 8:19 And when they shall say unto you, seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?
Instead of seek help from witches and mediums, using magic, or spirits, should we not only go to our God? Even the good angels are going to offer the same. Only a demon or Satan will direct a seeker for help to someone other than God.

Buy me Burrito! Burritos are delicious. Meat, beans, sour cream, veggies, wrapped in a tortilla. We all enjoy burritos! But you know that you cannot have what is good without somebody paying for it. If you have enjoyed things on my website, please consider helping me maintain the expenses of this site. Consider at least a one time donation to this ministry of $10 or $20 dollars? Very infrequently (one person every 3-6 months) will somebody donate something. Usually that is all I receive from 34 websites! Yet, from my download statistics, I have about 96 gigabytes total being downloaded monthly from all of these websites. Be a blessing to me and donate any amount. It would be really great if you could gift me and my wife (who splits a burrito?) this money so that we could enjoy eating out at least once in a while. (I pay the expenses for these sites out of our living expenses.) God will richly bless you and repay you for your generosity. 1 Timothy 5:18 For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward. If you received some value from my websites, consider at least a small donation. A big donation would really be nice, too, though.
